International Conference of Physics Students 2026 - Morocco

This August, the International Conference of Physics Students (ICPS) – the flagship event of the International Association of Physics Students (IAPS) – was held in Rabat, Morocco 🇲🇦. 

For the first time in its history, ICPS took place on the African continent, bringing together 200+ physics students from 30+ countries.

A few personal highlights:

• Presenting my research on superconducting transmon qubits at elevated frequencies. Raising the qubit frequency suppresses thermal excitation and therefore allows operation at higher temperatures. This is a crucial step towards integrating cryo-CMOS control electronics on the same chip. At the same time, the devices themselves get smaller, which is good news for scaling.

• Co-hosting a workshop with Cyrus Walther and Mario Gaimann on the opportunities and prizes open to IAPS members, among them the IAPS Fellowship, the Walther-Gaimann Innovation Award and the IUPAP-IAPS Outstanding Student Award (OSA).

• Taking part in the IAPS Annual General Meeting, where Mikołaj Zawadzki and I reported on our work as organizers of the IUPAP-IAPS Outstanding Student Award. I am happy to announce that we both got re-elected to this position.

It was a pleasure to reconnect with so many familiar faces, and I am truly grateful to everyone who made this event so special. My thanks go to the Executive Committee of IAPS, in particular President Leonor Andrade and Vice-President Elena Martínez Barceló, and to the Organizing Committee led by Kadiri Abdelmajid. Thanks also to the German Physical Society (DPG) for supporting my participation.
