This year I got the opportunity to participate in the first ever edition of the "APS Global Physics Summit 2025" (a combination of the APS March and April Meeting) in Anaheim, Los Angeles 🇺🇸.
As I am a Student Ambassador of the American Physical Society, I was able to greatly benefit from financial support in form of a travel grant, which made attendance possible for me! I want to express my deep gratitude towards Sarah Monk and Kristine Wallace, who coordinate the Student Ambassador program and create such amazing opportunities for our global student community.
Some clear highlights of the Global Physics Summit 2025 were for me personally:
• Being invited together with Dave Austin, Ph.D. to the Quantum Industry networking event “Resonance II: Amplifying the quantum community at the APS Global Summit 2025” organized by companies like Qblox, Q-CTRL, Quantum Motion, Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech, Diraq and many more!
• Participating in the Student Reception, answering questions regarding APS Membership and its Ambassador program as well as volunteering for the APS at the Membership Booth in the APS Village (Exhibition hall A).
• Seeing the Pacific Ocean for the first time and exploring historical landmarks in the Los Angeles area.
• Discussing the current development of industrial quantum processors with companies such as Microsoft, Google, IBM and IQM Quantum Computers. I found it particularly exciting to see Microsoft's “Majorana 1” quantum processor in person just one month after its announcement.
If you were also at GPS, I hope you stopped by the APS Village to get APS merchandise, immortalize yourself on the APS photo wall or learn more about everything APS has to offer. Maybe you even met me or my colleagues at the membership booth!
I feel deeply honored for being part of the 2024/2025 cohort of the APS Student Ambassador program. I would like to thank my fellow ambassadors Phong Dang, Irene Carrión López, Jan Willeke, Mario Gaimann, Cyrus Walther, Alexia Beale, John-Ryan Lawrence, Alessandro Di Gregorio, Zlatan Vasović, Borko Popović, Samuel McLoughlin, Arian Timm and many more for their commitment and the great time we spent together.
Coming to an end, I want to thank the APS as an organization, represented by John Doyle (APS President) and Jonathan Bagger (APS CEO) for financing a substantial amount of my travel expenses and for being an inclusive and global environment for physicist and physics enthusiasts.
After the GPS, however, I did not return to Germany, but went straight to a new destination. More about this will follow shortly in my next post...
