As announced in a previous LinkedIn post, I had the pleasure of organising another Career Preparation Seminar (BVS) during my tenure as Federal Board Member for Career Preparation of the young German Physical Society (jDPG). The BVS format is a nationwide, multi-day seminar designed to give physicists shortly before starting their careers a broad overview of career prospects with a physics degree.

The last BVS took place from 17.11. to 19.11.2023 in Kiel and included presentations by seven physicists from industry and business, who reported on their careers and current activities. My planning team and I are proud to have organised the probably most diverse BVS so far. We were able to welcome young professionals with Bachelor's, Master's, PhD and postdoc career entry levels to our BVS and are particularly pleased to have contributed to increasing the visibility of women in physics with more than 55% female speakers.

However, the BVS Kiel was also very broadly based in terms of expertise. Our speakers were active in the fields of medical physics, technical sales, business start-ups, military technologies, aerospace, laser physics and silicon technology.

At this point, I would like to take this opportunity to thank my project team without whom this seminar would not have been possible. Over 7 months of planning preceded the BVS Kiel, which definitely paid off with the consistently positive feedback from the participants and speakers.

During my year on the Federal Board of the jDPG, I was able to gain extremely valuable experience, elevate my communication skills to a new level and build a network of committed and inspiring people. Nonetheless, this BVS marked the end of my board position, since I will be involved in a new project in the near future. I look forward to telling you about it soon!
